Safety & Regulatory Testing

Mobile Power Solutions specializes in guiding your company through today's increasing quagmire of battery-related safety regulations. MPS provides comprehensive regulatory compliance, safety, and performance testing; we are A2LA accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

UN § 38.3 Testing
The U.S. Department of Transportation regulates shipment of lithium and lithium-ion cells and batteries. Shipping generally requires certification that the cells or batteries passed UN § 38.3 Testing. Tests include altitude simulation, thermal cycling, vibration, mechanical shock, external short-circuit, impact, overcharge and forced discharge. MPS has completed UN § 38.3 testing hundreds of times.

IEC 62133 Testing
International safety certification for rechargeable cells and batteries is available because MPS is a CB Testing Laboratory. MPS performs the testing and Nemko provides the national certification mark. The CB Scheme allows customers to enter international markets. The scheme, promulgated by the IECEE, facilitates international acceptance of safety test results, normally without the need for additional testing. The goal is "one standard, one test, accepted everywhere." The U.S., Canada, China, most of Europe, India, Japan and Mexico participate in the CB scheme.

RTCA DO-227 and DO-311 Testing
The Federal Aviation Administration requires certification to DO-227 for lithium and DO-311 for lithium-ion cells and batteries installed on aircraft. Testing is witnessed by an FAA Designated Engineering Representative. MPS serves on the committee drafting the replacement to DO-311.

McDermed Aviation Consultants provides Designated Engineering Representative (DER) services for electronic systems, electrical systems, safety, environmental, HIRF and project management at the equipment, system and aircraft levels.
